The call for proposals for health and health related researches in SOCCSKSARGEN is now open.

The Health Research and Development Consortium XII encourages health researchers in the region to submit their proposals for CY 2023 funding.

The Consortium envisions to be the frontrunner of health research and development in the region through promoting health research culture, organizing effective mechanisms to elevate health research functions that response to the social, gender and cultural needs of the people and a governing body that upholds health research results in the region.

Funding institutions include Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) and Department of Health-Center for Health Development XII (DOH-CHD XII).

Who can apply?

Researchers and faculty of HRDC XII member institutions who have permanent or regular status. We also highly encourage young and budding researchers to grab this opportunity.

I am interested in conducting research, but I am not yet regular or permanent personnel in our institution.

You may opt to partner with a colleague who is a permanent or regular employee. He or she will become the primary investigator of the study. This arrangement must be made internally in your institution.

Up to how much is the funding support?

Funding support is up to Php 1,000,000. However, this will depend on your proposal. The evaluators will deliberately check the proposed budget to see if it is reasonable enough to corroborate the details of your line-item budget.

What should be the duration of my proposal?

Your proposal must be feasible in 6 months – 1 year.

What proposals to submit?

The proposal must align on the priority areas indicated in the 2017-2022 Region XII Regional Unified Health Research Agenda (RUHRA). For your reference, the 2017-2022 RUHRA can be downloaded through this link: (https://tinyurl.com/y2cpf3xj);

How to apply?

The proponent should submit the following requirements:

  1. Project proposal following the DOST Capsule Form (Link for the Capsule Form: (https://tinyurl.com/y2cpf3xj);
  2. Workplan Schedule (Gantt Chart of Activities);
  3. Proposed Line-item-budget (LIB);
  4. Counterpart Funding of Implementing Agency;
  5. Endorsement of Agency Head;
  6. Curriculum Vitae (CV) of proponent(s).

What is the evaluation process?

For DOST-PCHRD Funding:

  1. In-house screening in terms of alignment to the research priorities, duplication, and completeness of requirements.
  2. Technical review by external consultants based on the following criteria:
  • Technical Merit
  • Data Management
  • Relevance/significance
  • Marketability potential (for product-based proposals)
  • Feasibility (practicability, cost, time)
  • Proponent’s/Institution’s capacity
  1. Final approval by the PCHRD Governing council or the PCHRD Executive Director depending on the recommended total budgetary requirement of the proposal.

For Department of Health XII Funding:

  1. In-house screening of proposals in terms of alignment to the research priorities, duplication, and completeness of requirements.
  2. Technical review by the HRDC XII Research Management Committee. In this stage of the review process, the proponent may need to revise the proposal on the basis of the recommendation of the reviewers.
  3. Once approved, the proponent may need to secure a permit and clearance depending on the nature of the study:
  • Bureau of Animal Industry clearance for studies involving animal subjects
  • Biosafety Clearance for studies involving genetic engineering and pathogenic organisms
  • National Commission on Indigenous Peoples Clearance for studies involving Indigenous Peoples
  • Gratuitous Permit from Biodiversity Management Bureau for studies involving the collection of flora and fauna from DENR Protected Areas
  • Ethics Clearance for studies involving human subjects.
  1. Once the clearance is obtained, the proponent will proceed to MOA Signing and release of funding.

When is the submission?

The deadline for submission of the pertinent requirements of the proponent/s is on or before March 31, 2023. Late submissions will not be entertained.

The DOST-PCHRD calls for the application of 2023 DOST-PCHRD for Undergraduate Thesis Grant in Natural Products.

The activity supports undergraduate students of Colleges of Pharmacy, Chemistry, Nursing, and Health and Allied Sciences who have thesis proposals on natural products utilizing indigenous plants in the region. The program aims to sustain the growing number of researchers in the country that propel advances to this field. It also encourages enhancement of Tuklas Lunas program (Drug Discovery and Development Program) of the DOST-PCHRD that gears towards safe, effective and affordable alternative drugs from the country’s natural resources.

Two (2) qualified proposals will be given thesis grant amounting to fifty thousand pesos (PHP 50,000.00) per region (subject to availability of funds).

Who can apply?

The search is open to all undergraduate students of Colleges of Pharmacy, Chemistry, Nursing and Health and Allied Sciences. Thesis projects must be completed no later than May 31, 2024.

  1. Duly accomplished prescribed research proposal form with college seal;
  2. Endorsement letter from the institution signed by the head of the University and College Dean;
  3. Soft copy of the proposal (word and PDF format);
  4. Certificate of plant authentication;
  5. Appropriate clearances;

Selection Criteria

The research proposals will be rated based on the following criteria:

  1. Technical merit
  2. Objectives are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound;
  3. The study design supports the objectives; and
  4. The study sample and methodology are appropriate.
  5. Data management
  6. The plan for data collection is clearly described;
  7. Quality control procedures for data collection are in place; and
  8. Statistical analysis is well described.
  9. Relevance/Significance
  10. The study addresses an important health problem; and
  11. The study contributes to the advancement of scientific knowledge
  12. Proponent/Institution’s capacity
  13. The investigators are qualified and appropriately trained to carry out the study;
  14. The proposed study is appropriate to the experience level of the investigators; and
  15. The implementing/cooperating institution is capable of carrying out the proposed study.

Thesis Grant

  1. Two (2) thesis proposals will be selected in each region. Researchers will receive a grant amounting to a maximum of fifty thousand pesos (PHP 50,000.00).
  2. The thesis grant will be deposited in the bank account of the thesis adviser and will be liquidated after the completion of the study.
  3. A Memorandum of Agreement will be signed between the students, adviser, head of the institution, and DOST-PCHRD.
  4. The grant must be expended as allocated in the approved line-item budget.

Completion and Cash Awards

Six (6) grantees will be selected as finalists to present their studies during the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) week celebration in August 2024. The top three (3) presenters will receive a certificate of recognition, and the following cash prizes:

First Prize

PHP 30,000.00

PHP 20,000.00 for the student

PHP 10,000.00 for the adviser

Second Prize

PHP 22,000.00

PHP 15,000.00 for the student

PHP 7,000.00 for the adviser

Third Prize

PHP 15,000.00

PHP 10,000.00 for the student

PHP 5,000.00 for the adviser

Consolation Prize

PHP 5,000.0 per group

 

 

Finalists will also receive certificates of participation.
